Grand Prix 500cc 2 is the sequel to the 1987 Grand Prix 500cc from Microids, with more realistic motorbike races and improved visuals and sound. It is a very addictive motorbike arcade game (rather than a pure simulator) that offers fun in single or 2-players mode!

Grand Prix 500cc 2STORY / GAMEPLAY
Ride a 500cc superbike and race against five other riders through twelve circuits around the world in the championship. This is one of the best games on the CPC with an arcade-style gameplay to get addicted even if you don't really like motorbike racing games. The game has the option to take part in a single race or do some training. You may choose between three difficulty levels as well as the option to save and load your championship position. Oh, if you have a preference in the coloring of your bike you can freely choose the color you like. Accelerating, braking and turning are done correctly and the feeling of speed is done awesomely. The game's controls might seem a little awkward when riding for the first time but after a while it will be easy to master. Now what is the best part of this particular racing game? The two-players mode in which you and a friend can take part in a race simultaneously (split screen)!

GRAPHICS / SOUND
The graphics are good and there is a real sense of speed as you race around the tracks at, well, over 200 mph! The sprites of the bikers look great and the collision is well managed. When in Single Player mode, the screen is split in half (top and bottom) with a huge real-time map of your current position on the track (top) and the main gameplay area (bottom). In 2-players mode, the screen splits in two main gameplay areas for each human rider (but the map is not visible this time). The game's sound on the CPC is good with an engine throttling sound and some more minor sound effects.

Amstrad CPC 464/664/6128

Amstrad CPC 464/664/6128CPU: ZiLOG Z80 4MHZ
MEMORY: 64 KB or 128 KB of RAM depending on the model (capable of being expanded to 512k using memory extension boards)
GRAPHICS: Motorola 6845 address generator, Mode 0: 160x200 / 16 colors, Mode 1: 320x200 / 4 colors, Mode 2: 640x200 / 2 colors, A colour palette of 27 colors was supported
SOUND: The CPC used the General Instrument AY-3-8912 sound chip, providing 3 channels Mono Sound (via internal speaker) but capable to offer Stereo Sound provided through a 3.5 mm headphones jack (with pretty impressive outcome!). Also, it is possible to play back digital sound samples at a resolution of approximately 5bit. This technique is very processor-intensive though.
